The University Library in Bratislava is the apex of scientific, informational, cultural and educational institutions of Slovakia.

Established in 1919, with collections dating back to the 17th century, it served until 1954 as the national library of Slovakia and became an independent, universal research library offering complex library and information services for the general public; carrying out high level bibliographic research, publishing, cultural and educational activities and holding several national and international responsibilities.

It fulfils its mission as
* the depository and conservation library of the Slovak Republic
* the depository library for the United Nations, UNESCO and NATO
* the office for the national retrospective bibliography
* the provider of the national union catalogue of periodicals
* the national ISSN agency of Slovak Republic
* the co-ordinator of the international interlibrary loan service
* the centre for digitisation, conservation and restoration and
* the integrator of cultural information systems.
Its main aim is to safeguard the cultural heritage and vast documentary wealth and to make it accessible to the general public and for future generations.

UKB Library Catalogue (1980 onwards)
The contemporary library catalogue contains all monograph holdings from 1980 and older circulated items. OPAC is implemented as part of the centralized national cataloguing and circulation utility managed by the Slovak National Library (Integrated Library System VTLS Virtua).
UKB Digitised Card Catalogue
Image catalogue of the general cards catalogue of the University library, covers the entire historical and contemporary holdings until 1990 (closing date). Contains scans of both handwritten and typed cards and allows simple search and EOD ordering.

SVK Annual School Reports (1701 – 1850)
Bibliography of Reports of 60 Schools in the Slovak territory between 1701 and 1850. It contains bibliographic records of school reports (over 600), bibliographic records of selected articles (more than 30) and some cover pages of the reports.
SVK Union Catalogue of Periodicals
The National Union catalogue of periodicals is the fundamental information resource and information-location utility covering the availability of documents in the participating libraries (over 350). It presents both the periodical stocks and the national periodicals production (more than 38,000 titles).
