University Library of the Medical University of Vienna

The University Library of the Medical University of Vienna is the largest medical library in Austria, with a collection of more than 250,000 volumes, including more than 14,000 dissertations and over 13,000 textbooks.
The biggest part of the collection is located in the Main Library, situated in the Vienna General Hospital with additional holdings in the branch libraries for Dentistry and History of Medicine. The library's range of modern research literature includes the most important bibliographic databases in medicine as well as around 8,600 printed journals and more than 7,000 electronic journals. The library also offers more than 10,000 electronic books. In total, the electronic media generate more than 1 million hits per year.

One of the library's special features is the historical holdings from the time of the Vienna Medical Schools, which are housed in the Branch Library for the History of Medicine.

Austrian libraries union catalogue

The Austrian libraries union catalogue contains about 8 million titles of over 70 libraries. It focuses on literature published from 1980 onwards. However, thanks to (continuous) retro-conversion, the catalogue also contains quite many records from earlier books. The EOD button is shown at records for public domain books held by libraries of EOD members.

Author-title catalogue "Medizinhistorische Dissertationen 1700-1850"

This catalogue contains approximately 5.000 historical medical dissertations, published between 1700 and 1850. Some of these dissertations are written in latin. The cataloguing was done using the "Preußische Instruktionen" ("Prussian instructions" - an historical german catalogue code.)

Author-Title Catalogue "Separata Medizingeschichte" 1860-1935

This catalogue accounts for approximately 51.000 separate prints from medical journals and various collections, which were published between 1860 and 1935. The cataloguing was done using the "Preußische Instruktionen" ("Prussian instructions" - an historical german catalogue code.)

The alphabetical subject catalogue "Medizinhistorische Literatur 1850-1989" accounts for approximately 100.000 bibliographic units which were published between 1850 and 1989. The catalogue records monographs, journals but also offprints and occasional component parts (single articles in journals or collective volumes) by title.

Card catalogue of the library of the Society of Physicians in Vienna

This scanned catalogue accounts for the old stock of the library of the Society of Physicians in Vienna. A Part of this stock was integrated into the old stock of the library for the history of medicine, while the rest is still marked with the Society's old call numbers.
