Founded in 1573, along with the Jesuit College, the University Library is today a service-institution of the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz.

It is comprised of the main library, a faculty library (for law and social and economic sciences) and several branch libraries and is open to the public.

Its main tasks and aims are the acquisition, accessibility and supply of information-providers and information-services for the students, teachers and research-workers of the KFU Graz as well as for members of other educational establishments and the public in order to maintain the social, cultural, and economic interests of Graz and Styria.

Library Holdings: 2.6 million books, 20,000 periodicals, 10,000 current periodicals (i.e. 1 million volumes).
